BACKGROUND

We were contacted by a couple sensitives, Angie and Stan, regarding a 1921 farmhouse outside of Lyons, CO.  The property consists of a farmhouse on about four acres which has been owned by the family since it was built.  Reports of activity include kitchen cabinets opening and closing on their own and an overall unsettling feeling on the property.  Several deaths have occurred on the property, including two sudden untimely deaths.  Previous renters packed up and moved out in the middle of the night due to paranormal activity.  Former investigators noted several unexplained EVPs (Electronic Voice Phenomenon).  The family and prior residents have no history of mental illness, abuse, or excessive drug/alcohol use.  The house underwent substantial remodels in the mid 1990s.

Two known deaths occurred in the house.  The homeowner's stepsister died abruptly in the living room of heart failure.  The homeowner's father died in the house in his bedroom.  The third death occurred in a large open area of land which sits west of the house, with a public access trail passing by the property.  In 1994, a woman went jogging on this path with her dog.  Later that night, the dog returned home, but the woman never did.  The woman was reported missing and after a large search party operation, the body was eventually found, two feet under the mud of a small pond about 100 yards west of the house.  The family reported a shovel near the site which was did not belong to the property owners.  The police report concluded that the woman died of diabetic shock while jogging, fell into the pond, and was subsequently trampled on by cows, which placed the body two feet under the mud.  Lastly, there have been three infant deaths in the family, but it was not known how many of them took place in the house.

INVESTIGATION

Our team arrived at the house at 6pm and was greeted by the homeowner, his wife, and their daughter.  We spent approximately one hour with them asking questions about the property and taking a walking tour of the house and surrounding land.  The homeowners showed us exactly where each of the three deaths occurred.  Shortly after the preliminary interview and tour, Angie and Stan arrived.  Our policy when working with sensitives is to not release any background information to them until after the investigation is over.

Immediately, they were drawn to the west side of the house.  They were mentally hearing things like bones being crushed, a body being dragged, and the words “blood”, “die”, and “demon” as we walked.   Going further and further through the dried brush, we came upon the aforementioned pond.  Without much hesitation, they walked around the pond to the northwest corner, precisely where the woman's body was found 15 years prior.  Angie said she could see a woman in a white dress standing there, singing.  We still don't know what that might mean, but her location was uncanny.  We still had not mentioned anything about the known history of the location to either of them.

Angie also sensed a woman just south of the house near some short metal silos.  Her vibe of that area was equally dire.  However, as of this report, we aren't aware of any events taking place there.  After spending nearly an hour outside, our team and the two sensitives went inside the house for the remainder of the investigation.  The house is currently vacant, but still furnished and heated.

We all walked around the house together, room by room, equipped with an assortment of instruments and recorders.  Angie and Stan were very quick to pick up on the room where the homeowner's father passed away, and also on the kitchen cabinets opening and closing in the past (“dishes clanging” and “doors slamming”).  Nothing noteworthy occurred in the basement, and even on the main floor, we did not physically see or hear anything unusual, so after a few hours, we decided to wrap it up and head home.

EVIDENCE

We reviewed approximately 3.5 hours of video and audio footage, as well as a few dozen photographs.  The video was shot with an infrared light, so the bulk of the investigation was done with all of the house lights off.  We also made use of a couple standard EMF (electro-magnetic field) meters with digital readouts, and a K-II meter, which also measures EMFs, but uses a series of five colored lights to indicate intensity.  Finally, although it does not count toward objective evidence, some people noted several “personal experiences”, typically in the form of cold spots or feelings of being watched.

We did not find anything out of the ordinary in the video footage, or the audio recordings, nor did we find any unexplained EMF readings inside the house.  In the end, only two photographs remained in the evidence pile... neither of which could be explained by any of us by “normal” causes.  And both photos were from outside the house... not inside.

Haunting Investigations Team
A potential “orb”, or spherical packet of energy, that appears to be hovering over the pond... exactly where a woman's body was found buried under the mud 15 years prior.  Unlike most photographs of orbs, this is not a dirt/dust particle or insect reflecting the camera's flash – the flash was not in use.  The sun had already set and is to the left of the viewing angle.  Other photos taken around the same time and place by the same camera (and other cameras) did not have a similar feature in them.  The orb itself has variations in color, density, and luminosity.  It could be an optical aberration in the lens(es) of the camera... we simply do not know.

CONCLUSION

H.I.T. did not witness any first-hand experience with paranormal activity.  No video or audio evidence of paranormal activity was collected.  The photographic evidence could be interpreted as “astral”, however could be caused by other optical phenomenon.  The photograph of the “orb” hovering over the exact location of the found body does have some validity due to environmental conditions at the time the picture was taken.  No flash was used, also minimal reflections due to sunset and time of day, and no other similar orbs appeared in other photographs.  The orb seemed to be very distinct and unusual in size, color, and density.  The second photograph was also taken outdoors, but well after dark.  A flash was used, but other photos taken close in time and space looked very normal.  Likely sources of the white mist include someone's breath condensation (this was demonstrated to not be the cause) or smoke (no one was smoking), so... it has been a challenge to debunk.  It was far too cold for any insects to have been flying (around 25F).  To add to its case, the photo was taken immediately after the photographer said she felt like something passed right by her.  Although we are not claiming these photographs to be proof of something paranormal, we may never know the true causes of the “orb” and the “mist”, so they remain unexplained.

We are hoping to return to the site for further investigation... perhaps shifting our attention more to the land surrounding the house.
A potential mist or apparition, captured outside well after dark.  The camera's flash was on, but other photos taken before and after this appeared quite normal, with the faintly-illuminated metal silos in the background.  The source was shown to not be someone's breath condensation, and no one was smoking.  The date set on the camera is not correct.  Photo courtesy of Loretta Craighead.
